TERMS & CONDITIONS

  1. The “TOEFL® We Ocean Warriors 2022 Competition” (hereafter known as “Competition”) is open to Malaysian students (hereafter known as “Participant”) from age 10 to 24 currently studying at schools that uses national curriculum and Institutions of Higher Learning in Malaysia.
  2. Students studying at schools using international syllabus are not eligible to participate in the Competition.
  3. The Submission must be in English and submitted online through the official portal.
  4. No written and/or hardcopy and/or image capture of the submissions will be accepted.
  5. Submission deadline is 31 August 2022 at 1.00pm.
  6. Submissions received after the deadline will be not be accepted and deemed ineligible.
  7. All Submissions received will not be returned.
  8. The Organisers will make every reasonable effort that the 50 best Submissions from each school category (Primary and Secondary) chosen will be published into a book.
  9. The Organisers will make every reasonable effort to notify the best 100 Participants to attend the prize-giving ceremony, which will be held on in October 2022, subject to further confirmation.
  10. The Organisers reserve the right to request to verify the government issued MyKid or Malaysian IC issued to the Participant as proof of name and age before the prize is presented or collected.
  11. Participants agrees to allow the Organizers and its advertising and promotional agencies to publish his/her name and/or photographs and/or winner’s participating photographs and/or essay or any parts thereof without further compensation and/or notice.
  12. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Competition winners may nominate a representative to collect the prize on his/her behalf. The representative shall only be immediate family members of the winner and/or hostel warden/teacher and a written authorization from the winner will be required to be presented. However, the prize handover to the representative is subject to the Organisers’ absolute discretion.
  13. The Organisers reserve the right to substitute prizes that have an equal or greater monetary value than the prizes offered in the Competition.
  14. Prizes that remain unclaimed by the winners within 30 days from the day of the prize-giving ceremony will be forfeited and thereafter, the Organisers shall have no obligation to substitute any alternative prize, cash equivalent or other compensation to the winners.
  15. The Organisers reserve the right to amend, terminate or add on to the terms and conditions at any time by placing a notice at the relevant website or any designated platform and/or area.
  16. The intellectual property rights of the Submissions will be assigned to Eshia & Associates Sdn Bhd (hereafter known as the “Organisers”) and the Organisers reserve the right to reprint the Submission in any format without compensation.
  17. All proceeds from the selling of the books/videos in any format and/or sponsorship derived from the Competition belongs entirely to the Organizers.
  18. In compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) 2010, the participants agree that the Organisers may collect and use the personal information that the participants have provided.
  19. The Organizers are indemnified against any actions taken and/or conducted by the Participant that may contravene the laws of Malaysia including any injury, loss, problem, damages or costs of any kind suffered resulting from participation in this Competition or in result of accepting or utilising the prizes awarded.
  20. Categories:
  1. Primary School Students – Newspaper Column

•     The Participant is the author of the submitted Newspaper Column.

•     Each Participant can only submit one (1) entry.
•     The Submission is the Participant’s original and unpublished Newspaper Column.
•     The Participant has read and agreed to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Competition.
•     All the information provided and submitted at the official portal are true and accurate.

•     The Submission is a Newspaper Column article with “marine life conservation” being the theme.

•     “Billfish” as an element and/or character must be included in the submission.
•     The Submission must have a minimum word count of 300 words and maximum words count of 400 words.
•     Winning Submissions are expected to show originality and competent use of the English language.
•     Only 50 best Submissions will be declared the winners.
•     Plagiarized Submission will be disqualified.
•     Judges’ decision is final and not subject to any appeal.
•     No correspondence will be entertained.

2. Secondary School Students – Short Story

•     The Participant is the author of the submitted short story.

•     Each Participant can only submit one (1) entry.
•     The Submission is the Participant’s original and unpublished short story.
•     The Participant has read and agreed to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Competition.
•     All the information provided and submitted at the official portal are true and accurate.

•     The Submission is a fictional short story with “marine life conservation” being the theme.

•     “Billfish” as an element and/or character must be included in the submission.
•     The Submission must have a minimum word count of 800 words and maximum words count of 1000 words.
•     Winning Submissions are expected to show originality and competent use of the English language.
•     Only 50 best Submissions will be declared the winners.
•     Plagiarized Submission will be disqualified.
•     Judges’ decision is final and not subject to any appeal.
•     No correspondence will be entertained.

3. Institutions of Higher Learning Students – Video Animation

•     The video animation must be either an individual production or group production.

•     Each Participant (individual or group) can only submit one (1) entry.

•     An individual Participant cannot also be part of a group.

•     For a group, minimum of 2 people and maximum 3 persons in a collaboration.

•     If any group of people decides to collaborate on an entry, they are required to designate one person as the agent of the group to enter the competition, agree to these terms and conditions, and accept any of the prizes on behalf of the group.

•     The final video needs to be uploaded on www.youtube.com with a specific mention of “We Ocean Warriors 2022 Competition” including the video title and all the participant’s name(s). The Youtube link must be submitted in the completed online entry form.

•     Video will be judged on the following criteria:

1. The big idea.

2. Impact and style.

3. Creativity in presenting the content that is interesting and engaging to the audience.

4. Quality of audio and visual.

•     The Submission is the Participant’s or Group’s original and video animation.

•     The Participant has read and agreed to be bound by the terms and conditions of this Competition.

•     All the information provided and submitted at the official portal are true and accurate.

•     The Submission is a video animation with “marine life conservation” being the theme.

•     “Billfish” as an element and/or character must be included in the animation.

•     The Submission must have a minimum duration of 2 minutes video and maximum of 3 minutes video.

•     The Submission is in the format that is accepted by YouTube.

  • It is the responsibility of each entrant to ensure that all videos have been taken with the permission of the subject(s) (or, where the submission shows any underage persons, the consent of their parent) and/or venue/location/photo or sound owner and does not infringe on the copyright of any third party. Entrants guarantee that they own the copyright for the submissions and for the usage rights required by the contest, and that their entry does not infringe on the privacy rights, copyright or any other rights of any person.

•     Winning Submissions are expected to show originality and competent use of the English language.

•     Only 3 best Submissions will be declared the winners.

•     Plagiarized Submission will be disqualified.

•     The Judges’ decision is final and not subject to any appeal.

•     No correspondence will be entertained.
